Testimonial

“We worked with Substance on our impact report, and it was a pleasure. They made the whole process straightforward and stress-free, guiding us every step of the way and delivering exactly to our timescales. The team were personable, responsive, and really took the time to understand our needs. Their thorough approach was well appreciated, and they ensured we were satisfied with the result. Highly recommended.”

– Dayne Matthieu, Head of Business Support, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation

The Challenge

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation approached Substance as they needed an assessment of the impact and social value it creates in relation to the Foundation’s:

  • Promotion of sport and football participation locally and globally.
  • Range of targeted programmes focused on improving achievement, building community cohesion, promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting people with disabilities in the neighbourhoods surrounding its stadium and training facilities.
  • Contribution to local civic pride, identity, economic regeneration and wellbeing.

As well as documenting and celebrating these benefits, there was also a desire to determine their value through a Social Return on Investment (SROI) assessment to reinforce the business case for further investment in the Foundation and it’s work.

How we helped

Our Social Valuing team worked closely with Foundation staff and stakeholders to assess all the Foundation’s work to complete the SROI assessment which considers not only the monetary value offered by the Foundation’s programmes, but the benefit to society through its direct impact on people’s lives, the economy and the environment.

Our findings were that Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is generating £24 million of social value for residents of Haringey, Enfield and surrounding London boroughs, equating to £10.38 of social value for every £1 invested.

Tim Crabbe, our chief executive, said: Tottenham Hotspur Foundation consistently displays progress and positive change. Expected returns for future years are likely to push over £30 million of social value and beyond if the same level of participant progress is achieved, accompanied with new exciting projects and programmes.
